Yellowhouse Machinery was founded in 1958 by J.E. Hancock in Lubbock, Texas, and became the first John Deere construction only dealership west of the Mississippi. Unlike most dealerships at the time, Hancock focused exclusively on construction and sold Hancock Elevating Scrapers, which he manufactured. Under general manager Morris O. Kerr, the business grew rapidly, and in 1960, Hancock sold the company to Kerr and Joe Thompson, marking the beginning of Yellowhouse’s expansion.
The company continued to grow under the leadership of Mike Kerr, Morris Kerr’s son, in Amarillo, expanding to the Texas Panhandle in 1986. After John Kritser Sr. acquired the dealership in 1991, Yellowhouse expanded to new locations across Texas, including Abilene, Odessa, San Angelo, and Wichita Falls. In 2011, the company expanded its reach and opened four new John Deere dealerships in Oklahoma. Now led by John Kritser Jr. as President, Yellowhouse operates 11 locations across Texas and Oklahoma. As a family-rooted business with a legacy of leadership, Yellowhouse continues to evolve, staying true to its values while serving the communities that rely on its products and expertise.
